"Not what we have,
but what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance." J. Petit-Senn Enjoy! Sandra Wednesday, November 14, 2007Go Green & Reduce Your Junk Mail
Today I received 16 pieces of mail - all junk. The amount of resources that are completely wasted on the whole process of printing, mailing and delivering all that junk to my mailbox makes me a little crazy. And what about the time it takes to process and destroy (shred) all this unwanted mail?
What is up with the same credit card company sending 3 or 4 offers EVERY WEEK?! I have already put my phone numbers on the Do Not Call Registry and that seems to be working pretty well. You just have to remember to renew your request every 5 years, so if you signed up when the Do Not Call Registry went into effect, you will need to review or sign up again to keep your peace and quiet. Back to the Junk Mail. I found a new, one stop resource to opt out of all the unwanted mail and data bases. The ProQuo service is free and their website is extremely user-friendly. It is time for us, the consumers, to stop this deluge of waste, to say nothing of the identity risks of having personal information and pre-approved credit card offers passing through untold numbers of unscrupulous hands. From an article in The San Diego Business Journal, by Candice Reed, "Marketing companies are making tens of billions of dollars by selling your profile," said Steven Gal, chief executive officer of ProQuo. "What happens is that you have no control over the data they send out and for the most part you have no idea who has your information." Gal said he set up ProQuo to be an agent of consumers, and he said he won't sell the personal data to anyone without explicit consent of the consumer. He said the company has plans to extend its services to e-mail as well. I signed up, and I expect to see less and less junk in my mail box in the coming months. So check out ProQuo.com, and get control of your junk mail!
